Monocentropus balfouri 1/2”size 1 2 One of the most incredible spiders in the hobby, well known for its communal behaviors. The buzz around this spider when it came to the hobby around 2006 was something Ill never forget. I owned 2 of the original 6 that came to the states, and at the time was the most I ever paid for a spider. Thankfully through captive breeding this spider is well established in the hobby now, with people keeping big numbers on them in one large enclosure.

Sometimes referred to as a “pet hole” due to their burrowing habits

These little tarantula are no bigger then a quarter when full grown

Quite possibly the meanest tarantula on the planet

When this spider first came to the hobby they were traded under the name Xenodendrophila gabrieli which was later to be found as a junior synonym of Encyocratella olivacea

that name is the senior synonym which becomes the accepted name

Some people have had success keeping these communally

This is a fast growing spider that is easy to breed

These colors give them the common name Goliath pinkfoot
