Gallowglass

GallowglassThe Gallowglass is our second offering in our line of Greatswords, or "War Swords". This unique design of large 2 handed sword was used by Celtic and Gaelic Mercenaries, the Scottish Gallowglass (AKA Galloglaich) and Irish Kerns in the late middle ages and early Renaissance. The iconic traits of a Gallowglass sword is the long handle and large "open ring" pommel, that exposes the tang. In addition, they also often had unusual quillon designs, that are

straight quillons and 2 large siderings

Primarily an English weapon

We offer 2 models

It uses the traditional 'ear' handle

and in the right hands

but Sideswords continued to be made

and provided a far more formidable melee weapon than the bayonets they usually were fighting against

that exposes the tang

and a great sidearm for any knight
