'Raise The Roof' brengt Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-lid Robert Plant en 27-voudig Grammy-winnaar Alison Krauss na zo'n veertien jaar weer samen, volgend op het historische succes van hun eerste samenwerking 'Raising Sand' (2007), dat multi-platina verkopen genereerde en zes Grammy Awards won, waaronder Album en Record of the Year.
Net als zijn voorganger werd 'Raise The Roof' geproduceerd door T Bone Burnett, die met Plant en Krauss samenwerkte om hun samenwerking in spannende nieuwe richtingen uit te breiden. Ze werden begeleid door drummer Jay Bellerose, gitaristen Marc Ribot, David Hidalgo, Bill Frisell en Buddy Miller, bassisten Dennis Crouch en Viktor Krauss, en onder meer pedal steel-gitarist Russ Pahl.
Het album bevat twaalf nieuwe opnames van nummers van legendes en onbezongen helden, waaronder Merle Haggard, Allen Toussaint, The Everly Brothers, Anne Briggs, Geeshie Wiley en Bert Jansch. Andere hoogtepunten zijn een Plant-Burnett original, "High and Lonesome", en de klassieker "Can't Let Go", geschreven door Randy Weeks en voor het eerst opgenomen door Lucinda Williams.
