Psalmopoeus victori 3/4”size 3 4 When most people think of Mexican tarantulas the first that come to mind are the heavy bodied desert dwellers of the genus Brachypelma. However in 2014 Jorge Mendoza described this exciting and drop dead gorgeous arboreal spider from Veracruz Mexico. In fact this is the only known arboreal tarantula from Mexico. Such beautiful coloration with the two tones of read and black. These never last long when I have them. One of my favorite arboreal

Both males and females keep their beautiful purple coloration as adults

The buzz around this spider when it came to the hobby around 2006 was something I’ll never forget

Neat heavy webbing “dwarf” tarantula

however in my experience there was quite a bit of cannibalism

They can be found in tropical forests

Fast forward to 2023 where this spider had a short stay in the in the new genus Isiboroa created by Ray Gabriel

I’m not even certain if the spider we know in the hobby is the same spider that these taxonomist are referring too
